How to log a feature request for IDS with IBM ?
- How is the official procedure to log a feature request ?
- Can I log a feature request without having an active maintenance contract with IBM ?
I would prefer an informal way to get a feature request logged. There is a feature request list on the IIUG website:
http://www.iiug.org/resources/IDS_Feature_Requests.html
There is also an email address (webcontent@iiug.org) listed.
Is this the recommended way to follow ?
Hi Eric, This is a good
Hi Eric,
This is a good question.
1. The official procedure to log a feature request is via an IBM Informix Technical Support PMR case.
2. You cannot, therefore, log a feature request without an active maintenance contract with IBM.
3. Informally, you can log the case with an IBMer of your acquaintance ;-) but the downside of that is that there is no significant value attached to the feature request, because a paying customer hasn't logged the request.
4. I can't really speak for the IIUG and how they are involved with the feature request process.. I would imagine that registering a request with the IIUG Board of Directors MIGHT get the feature request some attention, but I can't be sure. Hopefully a Board member will be able to comment.
5. It may be that posting the request on CDI for Madison's or Jonathan's attention may be a viable alternative, I can't be sure.
6. As an aside, the more people you can get to cross-reference your feature request, the more likely it is that IBM will address it.
I hope that answers it.
Confirmation from the IIUG
Hi Eric,
I've had confirmation from Kate Tomchik at the IIUG that you can, in fact, submit a feature request through the IIUG using the two methods you described:
There is a feature request list on the IIUG website:
http://www.iiug.org/resources/IDS_Feature_Requests.html
There is also an email address (webcontent@iiug.org) listed.
Hope this helps.
