Informix one-click-install on Ubuntu

Under:

Hello,

I just found this article that mentions that Informix will be distributed as a Debian (.deb) distribution. The article indicates that this would allow a quick and easy install of Informix software on the increasingly popular Ubuntu server operating system.

I think this sounds like good news!

Installing Informix 11.5 in Ubuntu

Last week I installed Informix 11.5 in Ubuntu 8.04. It is very easy to install. I didn't get the GUI screen but didn't find difficulty while installing from command line.

Howto?

Hello vramacha!

How did you install Informix? I am trying to find the IDS distribution in the Ubuntu repositores (including the partner repository http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu ) but I can't find anything called informix or so...

Reading http://www.ubuntu.com/system/files/u35/Informix_Final.pdf tells me I should just do
apt-get install informix-ids but it can't find the package. I am using Ubuntu 8.04.

(while searching for a solution I found the post-installation-welcome-page at Ubuntu, so it seems they've prepared for this to work at least http://www.ubuntu.com/register/informix )

Thanks,

Anders

Anders,

yes, this is interesting news. The rumors seem to be right. There is another article mentioning the same thing:

Canonical's Power Play.

This might help to attract Linux developers to IDS.

Let's see if and how IBM brings it to the market :-)
