MySQL - All that glitters is not gold
You might have already seen the new blog from Rajesh Nair. Rajesh is the IBM technical product manager for IDS and is especially focused on MMOG's (Massively multiplayer online games) as well as Virtual Worlds.
Rajesh posted an interesting new article to his blog which covers the myth around SUN's MySQL database:

MySQL has a market
MySQL has a market perception that it is blindingly fast, but lacks enterprise capabilities. I was therefore very surprised that when a customer recently benchmarked IDS 11.50.UC2 against MySQL, IDS performed at exactly the same speed as MySQL in the customer's benchmark, while also delivering full enterprise capabilities. The test was done with both the MyISAM and InnoDB backends.
And when we implemented TimeSeries (because of the customer's data, it was an excellent fit) IDS ran the benchmark in less than half the time it took MySQL.
