I wish you and your families Merry Christmas and All The Best for 2009.

2008 has been an exciting Informix year. The announcement of IDS on the MAC, the fantastic IIUG 2008 Conference, the release of IDS 11.5, the pole position regarding customer satisfaction and the IDS Virtual Appliance have been great Informix milestones in 2008.

But there is more: IDS is IBM's engine of growth in the distributed database market. With IDS 11.5 and the MACH11 technology IBM is able to compete at eye level against Oracle RAC. The newest deal with China Telecom demonstrates how IDS can be used by IBM to displace Oracle. I'm confident that we will see additional big wins with IDS in 2009 as more sales people inside IBM realize the potential of the sophisticated IDS technology and how to make money with it :-) The new IDS Replication Demos are good starter to inspire customers to take a deeper look at the superior replication technology.

As good as the IDS revenue growth rate is, I'm convinced that IBM would be able to sell even more Informix licenses. When thinking about a Smarter Planet, think about IDS and it's highly efficient hardware-gentle architecture as an important pillar for establishing an ecologically sensitive IT infrastructure.
