You might have already heard about the great potential of the Informix Timeseries Datablade technology especially in conjunction with Smart Metering.
Below you'll find an interesting presentation from Massimo Dore (IBM IT Architect from Italy) who describes how he uses the Informix technology to measure energy consumption at his home:
Hopefully IBM Marketing will focus on the strenghts of Informix in this area in 2011. This is definitely an exciting emerging market where Informix could be one of the key players if a serious marketing will be performed by IBM.

Smart Metering with Informix
Hi,
I attended the IOD 2011 in Mumbai - India yesterday,
There were 2 demo booths showcasing the power of Informix Datablades! :) but Not a single dedicated session for Informix. :(
I attended a session "Oracle to DB2 migration" and got reminded your words on how DB2 and not Informix is marketed to competed against Oracle.
It would have been a good thing if there was atleast one seesion entriely dedicated to Informix and datablade features, specially for Indian markets where the Informix foot print so less :(

IBM still doesn't understand that it is a great thing to have two databases to compete against Oracle and when to use the one or the other. Everything is focused on DB2 with still very moderate success outside of the SAP area.
If IBM would have invested the same marketing power that they spend in DB2 for Informix during the last 10 years, they would surely own a bigger part of the Unix/Windows database business as they do today. The problem is that there are a lot of guys in good positions at IBM that build their career on DB2 and they don't want to see Informix succeed.
Things are getting better, but IBM is still far away from an equal treatment of DB2 and Informix (:-
