Good news for anyone who is looking for real high availability. IBM has published a new Redbook that extensively covers the superior replication capabilities of it's OLTP flagship data server IDS:

If you are interested in the latest presentation from the IBM Business Partner Training, please contact John Dryburgh (Email: dryburj at uk dot ibm dot com). The presentation title is called Backup and Restore (BAR) in IDS 11.10. The presenter is Ron Privett who works as an Advanced Support Engineer at IBM.

This presentation contains additional information compared to the last Chat with the Lab session. It provides valuable information to anybody interested in the new functionality of IDS 11 in the area of Backup and Restore.

IBM Certified System Administrator - IDS V11

Yes, I did it !!

To set a good example The Informix Zone took the official IBM Informix Certification Test:

This morning I went to Cologne - the city that is well known for it's famous carnival as well as the historic cathedral - and attended the IDS V11 Certification Test at an authorized Prometric test center.

Cheetah - DIRECT_IO

Informix fellow Fernande Nunes from Portugal published the next Cheetah article about the new DIRECT_IO configuration parameter.

Cheetah spot by spot: DIRECT_IO

DIRECT_IO might be an interesting alternative to the usage of raw devices for certain types of IDS installations. However based on my experience I would still prefer raw devices as they give you a strict isolation from data stored in the filesystems and also KAIO is always supported, not dependent on the filesystem type or page size.
