IBM has enhanced the IDS Information Center. It is no long a "one-way street". Every registered user is now able to rate topics in the Information Center or write comments. It is more a kind of collaboration tool now. Not as open as a traditional Wiki but at least you can:

• Rate topics
• Comment on an entire topic or selected text within the topic
• Reply to comments
• Delete your comments
• Subscribe to pages or the entire site, to be notified of new comments

I just discovered an interesting Informix focused blog and would like to share it with you. The blog has been created by a Brazilian guy called Cesar Inacio Martins. The blog content is written in Portuguese. At the upper right side of the blog you will see some country flags. Just click the one you prefer and the blog content will be shown in your desired language through Google Translate. This works surprisingly well most of the time :-)

In September there will be an interesting webcast taking place with Informix veteran Lester Knutsen.

The subject of this webcast is Datawarehousing with IDS. Lester is for sure an excellent presenter for this topic as his company Advanced Data Tools has many years of experience regarding Informix and especially in the design of Data Warehouse systems:

IBM presents the second semi-annual Data in Action Virtual Conference. This is an online event directed to IT Executives and Managers.

I've been told by IBM that Informix will be part of this event. Otherwise I would probably not advertise it on The Informix Zone :-) So this is hopefully a good chance to get the latest news and hear what analysts have to say about Informix. However I wouldn't expect too much from this as "analysts" tend to say what the sponsors in the background want them to say :-) Anyway let's give it a try. Here are the details for the event:

Good news for all Informix newcomers:

You can now become an IBM Certified Database Associate. IBM has released a new certification test (Exam 555 - IBM IDS 11.50 Fundamentals) that is more directed to people new to Informix or people who are not working every day as an Informix DBA. The new certification is also a good preparation for people planning to take the already existing advanced certification called IBM Certified Database Administrator IDS 11 (Exam 918).

Ist die CPU durch oninit-Prozesse stark belastet fällt es häufig schwer, die Ursache zu ermitteln. Dieser Artikel zeigt einige gebräuchliche Methoden auf und widmet sich vor allem der Thread-Analyse.

Oninit-Prozesse werden auch "virtuelle Prozessoren" genannt. Sie bekommen vom Betriebssystem Rechenzeit zugeteilt, und können diese wiederum nach eigenem Scheduling-Mechanismus an Threads verteilen. Ist das System durch oninit-Prozesse stark belastet, spiegelt sich das z.B. in der Ausgabe von "top" wider:
